ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Hugh Flax, DDS, AAACD, MICOIDr. Hugh Flax is an award-winning, internationally respected cosmetic dentist who strives for perfection with every patient. He has a passion for continuing education and far exceeds the state of Georgia requirements by averaging 150 hours of continuing education each year – nearly eight times the required amount. Even though his reputation continues to attract patients, it’s his gentle, caring demeanor that keeps them returning time and time again.
In addition to being accredited with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Flax has earned numerous awards and certifications in dental implant care and laser treatment. He attends numerous advanced training meetings throughout the world including the Kois Center, AAID Maxicourse (a mini-residency in implants), the Academy of Laser Dentistry, and the Pankey Institute to continually improve his care for his patients. Very soon, he will have completed the certification process to receive Mastership with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, as well as having completed the extensive credentialing process to be recognized as an Associate Fellow with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

Genevieve Abi-Nahed, DMD, MSc (Perio), Cert (Ortho), FRCD(C)
Dr. Genevieve Abi-Nahed or "Dr. Abi" as patients have renamed her, simply adores her profession and loves bringing a smile to everyone she interacts with. She is known to be a happy, cheerful person with a genuine care for her patients. Dr. Abi-Nahed has successfully treated thousands of patients. She offers customized unique treatments for each of her patients. Dr. Abi-Nahed is also an educator and believes strongly in helping others understand the process and options to obtain the best treatment plan, and ultimately the best treatment outcome possible.
Dr. Abi-Nahed is a “super specialist" and has distinguished herself in her career by becoming certified specialist in both Periodontics and Orthodontics in Canada. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Board Eligible for the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Abi-Nahed obtained her certificate in Orthodontics from the prestigious Eastman Institute for Oral Health in Rochester, New York and received her Master of Science and certificate in Periodontics from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
She practices all scopes of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and Periodontics in San Diego, California.

Sam J. Halabo, DMD
Dr. Sam Halabo is an accomplished national and international speaker, author, and product evaluator. For over 20 years he has run a state-of-the-art private practice in San Diego, CA. He is a graduate of Boston University’s Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry and he completed a General Practice Residency at the Loma Linda Veterans Hospital.
Dr. Halabo is an adjunct faculty member at the University of California at San Diego and an Editor for ‘Inside Dentistry’ Magazine. He served as the director of dental care at the UCSD Homeless clinic in Pacific Beach, CA. He has been involved in product evaluations for both the Catapult Group and Clinicians Report (CR) for many years and is proud and honored to share his knowledge and experience with those seeking to provide excellent dental care for their patients. Dr. Halabo lectures on a variety of topics with an emphasis on improving patient care and the Dentists’ enjoyment of their profession by combining technological and clinical advancements with the use of simple practice management tools.
He is a member of the San Diego County Dental Society, California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of Laser Dentistry and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

James G. Kouzoukian, DDS
Dr. James G. Kouzoukian, known to his family of patients as “Dr. K,” graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 1984. He received supplemental training in cancer diagnosis and treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in Manhattan and additional training in trauma, injury repair and advanced pathology treatment at Woodhull General Hospital in Brooklyn. He initiated his own private practice in 1989 in Queens.
Dr. Kouzoukian represented the dental profession at a day long symposium aimed at educating vocal professionals (those who use their voice for their livelihood) when he delivered a seminar on TMJ dysfunction. He has performed non-invasive procedures to stem the debilitating effects of this often undiagnosed condition for many years, his services being requested by many Ear, Nose and Throat physicians for their patients. Dr. Kouzoukian’s clientele includes many stage and screen performers including actors, singers, dancers and musicians (you’ll see why in a moment!).
He is an active member of the Queens County Dental Society of the American Dental Association. He actively keeps on top of recent advancements in dental research by attending ongoing educational courses in all areas of dentistry and he has been recognized by the dental society for the hundreds of hours he has dedicated for this purpose.
Dr. Kouzoukian also has extensive experience as an expert witness in many different types of legal proceedings involving dentistry. He has performed research, prepared detailed written reports and given expert courtroom testimony on no-fault, personal injury and dental malpractice cases. On countless occasions he has assisted attorneys in protecting the interests of patients who have received substandard dental treatment. He has also treated many of these extremely apprehensive patients, restoring their function, alleviating their discomfort and reconstructing their smile in addition to re-establishing their confidence in the professional delivery of dental care. Dr. K is unafraid to voice his opinion in the interests of his patients!
James A. Smith, Jr., DMD
Dr. Smith is a native of Bessemer, Alabama and attended The University of Alabama, where he was a “walk on” football player for Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. After graduating with a B.S. in 1976, he entered The University of Alabama School of Dentistry graduating near the top of his class in 1980. He then entered a residency program in endodontics with The University of Alabama School of Dentistry and the Birmingham V.A. Hospital completing his specialty training in 1982.
Since then he has continued his endodontic training with many years of continuing dental education, including specialized training in microsurgical endodontic techniques with Dr. Gary Carr (father of the dental operating microscope) in San Diego, CA. Dr. Smith was one of the first two endodontists in the state of Alabama to use the dental operating microscope while performing root canal treatment and periradicular surgery. Since 1995, he has performed more than 21,000 procedures using the microscope.
He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the UAB School of Dentistry and teaches in the Endodontic Department on Fridays. Dr. Smith is the co-author of a clinical research paper published in the Journal of Endodontics in 2015. He lectures to dental groups across the country about endodontics and most recently the GentleWave procedure.

CDEWorld reserves the right to close registration when an enrollment limit is reached and to cancel, modify, or alter content or speakers for any course if circumstances necessitate such a change. If we find it necessary to cancel a course, a full refund will be granted. All attempts to contact registrants will be made as soon as possible in the event of a course cancellation.
In the event of inclement weather (such as a snow emergency) or other extenuating circumstances, CDEWorld may be forced to cancel a course. If a course has been cancelled, we will contact participants by the phone number and/or email address provided. You may call or email our office on the day of the course if you are uncertain of a course’s status.
