About the New DEA Requirements

Effective as of June 27, 2023, all DEA-registered practitioners (including dentists) are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance abuse disorders as a provision of the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act.

Confirmation of the completion of training will be part of both renewal and initial DEA registration. This is a one-time training requirement and will not be part of future DEA registration renewals.
