Treating Excessive Gingival Display Without Orthognathic Surgery
Hanno Venter, BDS
This case report article discusses the treatment of excessive gingival display through therapeutic options that are less invasive than and avoid the need for orthognathic surgery. Depending on the case presentation, approaches may include crown lengthening and placement of porcelain laminate veneers, lip repositioning surgeries, and plastic periodontal surgeries, among others. The case report featured in this article demonstrates how a combination of orthodontics, crown lengthening, and lip repositioning was selected as an alternative treatment to orthognathic surgery in an adolescent patient with excessive gingival display.
