FEATURED CONTENT

CE: Education and Training for CBCT Imaging
Esther Cruz, RDA, MA
According to research, use of CBCT when it is not indicated or improper use of CBCT can result in unnecessary radiation exposure and/or misdiagnoses. Because dental schools may face barriers to the implementation of digital dentistry in their curricula, continuing education and postgraduate training on such technologies are of paramount importance. This article explores the current best practices of and regulations regarding CBCT use within dental practices, the consequences of inappropriate use of CBCT and, correspondingly, of inadequate CBCT education, and the learning modalities both within dental schools and in continuing education and training postgraduation for proper CBCT implementation.

Creating an Extraordinary Outcome With Ordinary Digital Planning
Ellen Katz, DDS
As described in this case report article, “ordinary” digital planning was undertaken to diagnose and plan the proper treatment sequencing for a complex case, in which a patient who was dissatisfied with her previous extensive dental treatment desired a comfortable bite with less gingival display. This case, carried out in seven phases, illustrates how the patient’s functional risk and esthetics were improved while at the same time periodontal and biomechanical risks were reduced—resulting in extraordinary outcomes by means of “ordinary” digital planning.
