Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the mechanisms of action of GLP,1 receptor agonists and dual GLP,1/GIP agonists and their relevance to dental care.
  • Identify common oral health findings associated with incretin based therapies, including xerostomia, altered taste perception, dental erosion, caries risk, and periodontal implications.
  • ​Apply practical prevention, risk assessment, treatment planning, and sedation safety strategies for patients taking GLP,1 based medications.

Author Qualifications:

Dr. Felipe Damerau Ouriques is a periodontist with advanced training in implant dentistry and over 10 years of clinical experience in periodontal and implant therapy, and full arch rehabilitation. He completed his DDS and MS in Brazil and recently completed his Periodontics residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is eligible for the American Board of Periodontology oral board examination and continues to focus his clinical work on evidence based periodontal care, implant dentistry, peri,implant health, and long term patient centered outcomes. Dr. Ouriques has contributed to peer reviewed publications and conference presentations and serves as Director of the Alabama ITI Study Club.
