    As a registered professional architect and dentist, Michael Unthank, NCARB, DDS speaks both languages fluently. His experience and in-depth knowledge of these disciplines provides him an empathetic understanding of what constitutes successful dental office design. Since 1980, Dr. Unthank has designed over 2,000 dental and dental specialty offices throughout the world and is owner of Unthank Design Group, a planning, architecture and design firm exclusively dedicated to the dental professions. Dr. Unthank served as Director of Architecture with the Pride Institute in San Francisco and as Architectural Consultant to T.H.E. Design, Austin, Texas. His work has been featured in numerous professional dental publications and he is a featured speaker at major national dental meetings. He has co-authored all three issues of The ADA Practical Guide to Dental Office Design.

    Desirée Walker, DDS

    Desirée Walker, DDS, earned her BS in Nutrition at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and her DDS from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. She is on the fellowship track in the Academy of General Dentistry, a delegate of the North Carolina Dental Society, and maintains a general practice, Lumber River Dental.

    Joseph Miller

    Principal with JoeArchitect

    Joseph Miller is a founding principal with JoeArchitect.  After earning a Masters in Architecture at Tulane University, he moved to Colorado in 1988 to be a member of the Denver International Airport design team.  Joe regularly speaks and writes about the process of designing and building dental facilities.  In 2012 he was selected to co-author the current edition of The ADA Practical Guidelines to Dental Office Design.  As Director of Business Development with JoeArchitect, Joe’s primary focus is to educate students and dental professionals so that they can make sound decisions when the opportunity to design and build their dental office presents itself.

A member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, and a national speaker on dental office design, he maintains a general practice in Charlotte, Smile Savvy Family and Cosmetic Dentistry.
