Because stroke is common, with more than 700,000 cases annually, most dental professionals during their careers are likely to see an overlap of dental and stroke issues. Dentists may play a pivotal role in the care of these patients. This article discusses important caveats, the use of drugs for postoperative dental pain, and evidence-based recommendations. The article also explores diagnosis and management, as well as illustrating its points with a case report of a patient who briefly discontinued treatment to undergo dental surgery.
