A Lab Owner’s Journey into Digital Dentures

When travelling to unknown worlds, the certainties of the past may be misleading, may slow down learning or just vanish over time. This journey into digital dentures is, in some respects, such a journey into a new, unknown world. This presentation will draw from personal experience to discuss the motivations and expectations of an experienced dental lab practitioner that drove his exploration into digital dentures. Attendees will learn about digital denture workflows and the particular importance of flexibility, openness and freedom of choice to achieve future safety as well as discuss the standards, experiences and learning curve that need to be considered when moving into a digital denture process. The workshop will also explore how to engage and bring dentist clients on board in joining the digital denture journey.

Digital Dentures: Easy, Fast, Precise with Economic Benefits

While it currently takes up to six appointments in the dentist’s office and up to 8-10 hours labside to fabricate a conventional denture, the economic benefit decreases dramatically with each appointment necessary to collect all the information required. This presentation will explore how to decrease the number of appointments to two: one for impression-taking, including bite registration and try-in, and the second appointment for delivery. This workshop will explore the complete digital solution workflow: the impression-taking process in the practice, the scan and CAD design process, and the CAM milling of the final denture.

  • Compare analog or traditional denture steps and process to the digital denture fabrication method
  • Explain, step-by-step, impression technique, citing patient case studies and an educational video presentation of the impression technique and tools

The Digital Evolution of the Complete Denture Fabrication Process

This program will demonstrate the power of digital integration for a full arch setup and wax-up using CAM removable software as a design platform and discuss the options for automated processing. Attendees will have the opportunity to see first-hand the ease of setting up a full arch with the subsequent one-click of a mouse for wax-up finalization, as well as how to use digital tools to recreate nature. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions related to denture scanning, digital design, custom and existing tooth libraries and learn about the options for milling, printing, or outsourcing the design for final fabrication.
